Traveled to the Lofoten Islands, just north of the Arctic Circle in Norway for what we had hoped would be a week of northern lights photography. Our base camp was in Hamnoy, a small fishing (cod) village in the municipality of Moskenes, along the Vestfjorden. Our timing was such that there was no moon, but the weather was unseasonably warm with considerable cloud cover and rain. With a couple of days remaining we made a mad dash east to Kiruna, Sweden for clearer weather and electric skies.
A side trip to the amazing Ice Hotel in Kiruna was a great photographic treat.
I've put my money down on a return trip mid-winter 2016 with hope for more clear nights and crazy, wild geomagnetic activity.
